More Bookings Coming
Not sure what i'm trying to say in this post but i got more bookings and more hopeful!

My First Review on FLAYR: A New Chapter in My Makeup Journey
I finally got verified on FLAYR! For those who don’t know, FLAYR is an Australian platform that connects makeup artists with clients, mainly operating in New South Wales and the ACT. I had heard great things about it from fellow makeup artists, and it was highly recommended to me. One thing I love about the makeup artist community in Australia is how supportive everyone is. Back in the day, I used to see others as competition rather than allies, but I’ve grown a lot since then. Now, I actively seek connections, and FLAYR seemed like a great way to do that.
There are other platforms like Baha or Airtasker, but FLAYR stood out to me because it makes it easy to get booked for gigs. The verification process took quite a while, but once I was in, things moved fast. I got my first booking almost immediately, a last-minute job confirmed on a Friday afternoon for an appointment the next morning at 11 AM.
A friend had advised me against taking last-minute bookings, warning that clients could be picky and difficult. But something in my gut told me to go for it, and I’m so glad I did. The experience was amazing! My client was wonderful, and not only did I deliver great results, but I also received an incredible review. And guess what? Just two days later, that review led to another booking.
It felt so rewarding to see the direct impact of my work. The client even mentioned that her makeup lasted until 1 AM, music to my ears! Knowing that people trust me and feel confident in my skills is exactly why I do this.
The Reality of Working on FLAYR
While FLAYR has been great for exposure, I’ve noticed a few challenges. First, I have to be extremely active on my phone. I’m already online a lot, but this takes it to a whole new level. I also find that some of the rates suggested on the platform are way too low, like full makeup and hair (including braids) for $400 for seven people. That’s just not worth it.
I’m open to taking on lower-paid jobs now and then, especially for portfolio-building, but I want to make sure it’s beneficial for me. I often do free makeup for models to gain experience with diverse features and skin tones. Inclusivity is a huge part of my brand, and I invest time and money into ensuring I can cater to all clients. Different ethnicities have unique features and makeup preferences, South Asians often have darker under-eyes to correct, Southeast Asians may have uneven eyelids, and so on. Understanding these details helps me tailor my skills to enhance each client’s natural beauty.
One challenge with FLAYR is that I don’t get to see my clients’ faces beforehand. Normally, I ask clients to send photos so I can plan how to elevate their look, but on FLAYR, I don’t always have that option. Some people are particular about their brows, while others care deeply about their eyeliner, so being able to prepare ahead of time is ideal. Regardless, I see this as a new challenge to adapt to different styles quickly.
Looking Ahead
So far, I’ve already been booked three times within three days of my FLAYR account being activated! That gives me a lot of hope. I’m doing my best to maintain high standards, and it’s reassuring to see it paying off.
I even called my mum today, and she said she wouldn’t feel confident getting her makeup done by anyone else but me. That meant the world to me. She’s picky, and we argue when I do her makeup, but knowing she trusts my skills so much really boosted my confidence. My sister said the same thing, and it made me realise that I’ve been underestimating myself.
This journey on FLAYR feels like the start of something big, and I’m both excited and hopeful for what’s to come. Here’s to more bookings, happy clients, and growing as an artist!
Thanks for reading! Cheers! 🎉
